Emma Stone Scoops Best Actress for La La Land

Just a couple of weeks after her big Golden Globes win, La La Land's leading lady Emma Stone has won another award at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Emma was able to walk away with Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. The 28-year-old, who plays a struggling but savvy actress in the musical comedy, fought off competition from Amy Adams for Arrival, Emily Blunt for The Girl on the Train, Natalie Portman for Jackie and Meryl Streep for Florence Foster Jenkins. Emma left ninth grade to become an actress at 14.

Denzel Washington Did Not Believe in Himself

Denzel Washington, who has been named best actor at this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards for his outstanding role in August Wilson's Fences, accepted the award by admitting he really did not believe in himself. He said he was a God-fearing man and was supposed to have faith but he did not have faith. So, he added, he was not even prepared for the award. The 62-year-old beat out Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck, Hacksaw Ridge's Andrew Garfield, La La Land's Ryan Gosling and Captain Fantastic's Viggo Mortensen for the honor.

Mahira Khan Upset as Raees is Not Releasing in Pakistan

In spite of getting an opportunity to work with the Badshaah of Bollywood, Mahira Khan feels her achievement has come under the evil eye since Raees is not releasing in Pakistan. She expressed her disappointment saying that she was the first Pakistani actress who got the opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan as the main lead. She is, however, hopeful that Bollywood films will be permitted to screen in Pakistani cinemas.

Asghar Farhadi to Avoid Oscars in Protest of Donald Trump

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, whose film The Salesman is nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 89th Academy Awards, has said he will not attend the Oscars even if exceptions are made and he is allowed entry into the US after president Donald Trump’s sweeping ban on immigrants from Muslim countries. His decision follows US president Donald Trump’s order suspending entry of refugees to the US for 120 days. Farhadi’s film A Separation had won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012.

Ashley Judd Was Raped When She Was 14

Hollywood actor Ashley Judd, who arrived in Delhi as a part of the World Congress Against Sexual Exploitation of Women and Girls initiative, spoke at length about gender discrimination, and said that she too has been a victim of sexual harassment. She claimed that she was molested when she was 7 years old and raped at 14. At the press conference, the actor sported mehendi on her right palm, and greeted everyone with a Namaste.
