Bangladesh 110th in the list of World's Happiest Nations

| Navid Ahmed |

Bangladesh ranked 110th out of 155 countries in a global list of the happiest nations, coming ahead of India (122). India has dropped from the previous year’s 118 while the position of Bangladesh has remained unchanged. Norway takes the top spot as the happiest country in the world, displacing Denmark, according to The World Happiness Report 2017, published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative for the United Nations. The report takes into account GDP per capita, life expectancy, social support, and freedom to make life choices, as indicators of happiness. Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, and Finland round out the top five, while the Central African Republic came last. Western Europe and North America dominated the top of the table, with the US and UK at 14th and 19th, respectively. Countries in sub-Saharan Africa and those hit by conflict have predictably low scores. Syria placed 152 of 155 countries – Yemen and South Sudan, which are facing impending famine, came in at 146 and 147. The World Happiness Report was released to coincide with the United Nations’ International Day of Happiness on March 20. It mainly relies on asking a simple, subjective question of more than 1,000 people every year in more than 150 countries.
