The government has decided to create 50,000 more posts with Bangladesh Police in a bid to ensure security of the people. Minister for Home Affairs, Asaduzzaman Khan, disclosed it in Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) on June 29. Of the total, 7,151 posts will be created under Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Asaduzzaman informed that manpower at Kadamtoli and Shyampur police stations would be increased after completion of the posts creation. He said that the government has signed various agreements with different countries and regional forums to curb drug smuggling in the country. In this regard, Bangladesh signed an agreement with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) on December 29-31, 1988, Myanmar on December 1, 1994, Iran on October 10-23, 1995, BIMSTEC on June 6, 1997 and India on March 2006, said the minister. Besides, four bilateral meetings at the director general level of Bangladesh-India Nodal Agency were held aimed at stopping drug smuggling from the neighboring country, India. Moreover, two bilateral meetings were held between Bangladesh and Myanmar in this regard, he said.
